Our Tuxedo Tornadoes compete in the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association. We believe that participation on an athletic team builds self-confidence, develops leadership skills, and encourages sportsmanship and teamwork. Tuxedo proudly supports a number of interscholastic sports teams at the modified, junior varsity, and varsity levels.

Our current sports teams for the 2020-21 school year include:

COVID-19 Athletic Safety Plan for 2021 Fall II and Spring Sports

The Tuxedo Athletic Safety Plan outlines the protocols and guidelines Tuxedo Union Free School District to ensure health and safety of our athletes.  The District has elected to implement additional safeguards beyond those required by state and local authorities to minimize any additional risk of contraction and transmission of COVID-19 posed by athletes’ participation in sports to their peers, teachers and families.

The Tuxedo Athletic Safety Plan is based on the following:

  • State and Local Regulations and Guidance for Sports & High Risk Sports:

  • New York State Education Department

  • Orange County Department of Health

  • New York State Public High School Athletic Association(NYSPHSAA)

  • Section IX and the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association 

  • Consultation with neighboring Districts on athletic safety protocols & student outcomes

  • Input from parents/guardians and student athletes

Notice on High-Risk Sports

Athletes’ participation High Risk Sports is subject to additional state and local regulations that other sports are not subject to.  This includes mandatory consent and a waiver from parent/legal guardian and strict adherence to Code of Conduct.

Fall II Season 2021: Volleyball
Spring Season 2021: No high risk sports offered

Athletes participating in high-risk sports have additional requirements (stated in the Athletic Safety Plan). This including a waiver specific to participation in high risk sports and consent to daily COVID-19 testing and all necessary documents required to conduct this testing.

COVID-19 Testing Plan for High Risk Sports

Participation in High Risk Sports will require daily COVID-19 testing of all players and coaches.   This testing will be provided free of charge to Tuxedo athletes participating in High Risk sports and their coaches.  This service will be provided by Horizon Family Medical and take place ahead of each practice and game. This will require parent/guardian consent for testing and completed registration information provided ahead of the first practice to Horizon Family Medical.  An outline of the Tuxedo testing protocol and necessary consent forms are provided within the Athletic Safety Plan.

Suspension of High Risk Sports

High risk school sports may be suspended if public health concerns require so.   Student-athletes and their parents/guardians will be notified by the District should High Risk School Sports need to be suspended (all practices and games) due to this situation.
