Principal for a Day

Second grader Virgina Potouridis wants her fellow students to know that being a school principal is hard work! She speaks with authority, having recently acted as George Grant Mason Principal for a day. The experience was a prize won in a raffle sponsored by the @tuxedopto at the Tuxedo Fall Festival.

Virginia’s day began before 8:00 am, welcoming students as they arrived at school, and delivering Pre-K students to their classrooms. “I had to come in early and Mommy was rushing me!” she exclaimed.

Once everyone was settled in their classrooms, Principal Virginia sat down with Dr. Jean-Paul and wrote a plan for the day. Tasks that required her attention were making sure the Book Fair was set up and ready for shoppers, helping prepare and deliver the morning announcements, and assisting with the lunch count - all before 9:00 am!

Virginia took her duties seriously and kept busy all day long, with lunchtime proving to be more demanding than she expected. “They were going crazy at the lunch table!” she said about her classmates.

At the end of the day, Virginia took a moment to reflect on what she learned, and what stuck out to her. “When you are the principal it’s important to make sure everything goes smoothly,” she stated.

Even though it was only her first day, we think Principal Virginia exceeded that expectation!
