scholar athlete

Congratulations to Jake Sandak and Veronica Chavez Granillo! The George F. Baker High School seniors have been named Scholar-Athletes by the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA Sports). Each year the awards are given to high school seniors “who have distinguished themselves in the classroom and in the athletic arena." The guidelines for being selected are: top 20% class ranking, participation in at least one varsity sport, an above average athlete, and outstanding citizenship.

Jake Sandak has played on the Varsity Basketball team for two years. Coach Matt Takeuchi says the team captain has shown tremendous work-ethic and dedication during his tenure, which have yielded significant improvements in his on-court performance. “He has set a great example for our younger players.”

Varsity Volleyball coach Michelle Hines says that Veronica Chavez Granillo has been a leader on the court during the two years she spent on the team, resulting in her securing the title of team captain her senior year. “She is always positive, optimistic, and encouraging to her teammates. Veronica is a class act and a role model for the rest of the program. It has been a joy to coach her.”
